Together, we will make a handmade web.

In 2040, I would like to be a plant . I think a utopian society would only exist if everyone is a plant. It would be really cool if everyone had a different plant that represented themselves. Like for me, I would want to be a water lily or a lily pad or something like that. My girlfriend says she wants to be a aloe plant That would also be pretty rad. I feel like if everyone were plants there wouldn’t be carbon emissions either. Also we wouldn’t have any thoughts. God isn’t that the dream.

“And isn't that how you become tender, vulnerable? The tissue-softening marination of your own mind, the quicksand of mental indulgence?” “And isn't that how you become tender, vulnerable? The tissue-softening marination of your own mind, the quicksand of mental indulgence?” “And isn't that how you become tender, vulnerable? The tissue-softening marination of your own mind, the quicksand of mental indulgence?”
Inspired ART:
-Anne ten Donkelaar's photography documents plants presented as participating in human activities. Her "Underwater Ballet" depicts flowers as ballerinas.
-Mort Garson's "Plantasia" is a composition of orchestral "plant music". "Plantasia" was composed to be enjoyable to plants. When you listen to "Plantasia" you can feel yourself becoming one with the Natural.
-Azuma Makoto's "Leaf Man" is an exhibition inspired by the half human/half plant creature that Mokoto sees in his dreams. This is representative of the idea of the merging of plants and humans, because Makoto demonstrates the physical form in which a plant/human creature would exist in.

The perfect, utopian future is impossible unless every person is restored to their fullest self: the plant. In my future, everyone is a plant that is representative of their absolute best. Every plant has a personality. So does every person. With over 400,000 species of plants on Earth and thousands of subgroups within those 400,000 species, every person will be able to bloom into their own unique plant.
How do we become one with the natural? The answer is simple. We get to know the natural. For my research, I will be documenting my experience carrying around the plant version of myself for a week. I will have pictures and journal entries discussing living with a plant. The plant will go with me to class and live my life with me. In return, I will be sitting out in the sun with my plant and living their life with them. The life of my plant and I will be intertwined to begin the process of becoming a plant.
I’ll be looking at sources of plant music, such as Mother Earth’s Plantasia. I am also really interested in Leaf Man by Azuma Makoto. Leaf Man is the representation of a creature that Makoto sees in his dreams. He is one of many artists who interpret the combination of joining humans and plants. Additionally, I am interested in Anne ten Donkelaar’s work. She creates personified scenes in which plants act out human activities. For example her Underwater Ballet is a photograph documenting floral “choreography”. My subject matter falls in line with these pieces of art, because it personifies plants. The plant music allows me to feel like a plant, because I get to listen to what plants enjoy listening to. Additionally, the pieces of art by Anne ten Donkelaar and Azuma Makoto both document plants as human beings.
